Constantly evolving, this little yard sits at the confluence of planting philosophy lineages:
My interest in ecology started with observing
volunteers in the urban landscape. For a fleeting moment I was a full
native plant nazi. Yet my first professional plant design opportunity entailed being thrown into a lion's pit of gossipy old-school
horticulturalists with an extravagant sense of beauty and
even more extravagant sense of irrigation. I survived.
This yard sits happily among all these contradictions. At times, it might mix weedy pioneers, local natives, and exotic snob plants.
Recently, I'm enjoying the constantly evolving menu of forage-able things that drift in from the surrounding urban landscape, and providing for the birds and bugs as well.
