Maquette of the Spectacular (1998). The Spectaculator is a fountain that propels existing street debris into a monumental spectacle. It uses no outside energy source, only the natural difference in air pressure between the street level and faster moving air above the tallest buildings in the vicinity. The pressure difference creates an upward airflow through the body of the Spectaculator. Errant trash is swept up, swirled around, and ejected out the top. A 4-minute video demonstrates this principle and how the fountain would function in an actual urban setting. The Spectaculator alters the urban esthetic economy, allowing trash a moment of redemption, over repression.
